Every once and awhile you meet another filmmaker that just gets you. The one that loves to defy conventions and pushes the limits of movie making. When I met Katya Yakubov, I knew I had met such a person. When a writer/director sets you up with “this script can be a little challenging”, I knew I was in good company. After weeks of prep, she had transformed an apartment building basement into a witches lair where the ancient story of Baba Yaga would unfold over several weeks in March and April. It was an amazing experience and allowed me to delve into a deeply conflicted character that in a silent war to retain his sanity and the witch grinds away at his inhibitions.
